And imagine these hacks as your besties like the ladies on Living Single! Who will be the ambitious and reliable Khadijah? The energetic and powerful Max? The innocent & loyal Sinclaire? The bold and stylish Regine? Let's get into it!

4. Lost Luggage: Synclaire James

Last but not least, we have our lovable airhead Synclaire. Like Synclaire sometimes was, your checked luggage could possible be lost this holiday season! Unfortunately, lost luggage is becoming more common these days, but there are things you can do to prevent or minimize the fallout!

Lost luggage tips:
  • Go digital. AirTags or other tracking devices are easy to throw in your luggage for tracking your checked luggage. It may not get your luggage to you faster, but at least you can provide an accurate location to the agent.

  • Get a TSA-approved lock. It goes without saying, if your luggage does get lost, you don't want what's inside to go missing too! Also, take a picture of the inside of your suitcase and its contents for extra precauction.

  • Carry-on essentials. Medications, extra toiletries, undergarments, and expensive items should go in your carry-on if possible. At least you'll have your essentials if you find yourself without your luggaage for a few days of your tip (or more 🙄)

Like Khadijah, travel insurance is the friend we should have all in our corner to minimize the impact of the ✨inevitable✨ disruptions that will come with air travel this holiday season. Travel insurance can come in many forms and cover many interruptions including:

  • Trip cancellation and interruption insurance

  • Emergency medical and evacuation coverage (so handy for international travel!!)

  • Baggage delay and lost luggage coverage

Resources:

Tip Khadija would be proud of: Check your existing credit-card benefits. For example, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card lists trip delay insurance for covered delays exceeding six hours, plus trip cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance!

2. Flight Trackers: Maxine Shaw

Getting ahead of the mess is what Maxine Shaw attorney at law does best! Flight trackers are your first-line of defense to be aware of what your trip will like look before you even get to the airport:

Resources:
  • FlightAware: Track your flight and check the inbound aircraft's progress.

If your aircraft hasn't arrived yet, you may spot a potential delay before the departure board changes! Its an early clue, not a guarantee.

  • FAA airport status: Check U.S. airport delays and traffic restrictions.

What would Max do? Check this before leaving home, especially when winter storms or busy holiday traffic could affect your departure airport.

3. Booking Direct: Regine Hunter

Let's be real, Regine wouldn't be caught dead in coach, BUT if she did, she would be booking direct with the airline. Unfortunately girls, the data is right: booking direct makes it immensely easier to contact your airline & receive support, or reimbursement should you need it. While we recommend using sites like SkySkanner and Google Flights to research flights, we almost always say booking direct with the airline is the way to go! Here are some of the benefits Regine is used to:

Benefits of booking direct with the airline:
  • Faster response times. Agents can help you more quickly at the airport if you have flight information you can easily access from your booking with the airline. It also makes refunds less of a hassle because you can argue directly with the airline, instead of the third-party you ordered form.

  • Priority (almost) everything. By downloading the airline's app you will know about delays early (sometimes before the gate agents do) and if a cancellation triggers self-service rebooking, you can review available flights immediately.

Should you need these tips in this crazy world, you'll be glad you have your girls!❤️
